Park City among other things... [Feb. 2nd, 2006|11:50 am]
Despite near record-breaking crappy weather here in Seattle, winter is treating us well.

PARK CITY:
We had a reprieve from the wind and rain last week when the TanZookies (that’s the cute little nickname that we at Tangent Productions and Gadzook Films have given ourselves) checked out the festivities in Park City, UT for the first time. What’s in Utah, you ask? Well, besides Mormons, 3.2% alcohol “beer” and lots of snow, there is also a bevy of film festivals called _______Dance. Sadly, we weren’t accepted into any fests, but that didn’t stop us from going to see a number of great films, meeting a lot of cool people, stuffing our satchels full of free crap and testing the limits of alcohol poisoning.

The official TanZook film recommendations from Sundance are “Stay” (written and directed by Bobcat Golthwait) and “The Decent” (from the creator of “Dog Soldiers”. If you liked the creative use of fake blood and sausages from that film but could do without the jokes, this one’s for you!).

In addition to being able to see a number of good films before the rest of America, Jessica got to meet her favorite film persona of all time: Crispin Hellion Glover!

We hope to return to the snowy mountains in 2008 with "Plight of the Living Dead."

SPEAKING OF PLIGHT…
Development is moving right along.

We're working with a Sales Representative who is helping us find some sources of funding. This has lead to some good connections and we're hopeful of the prospects.

We hope to open the investment floodgates by the end of February for "Plight". If you're interested, or know someone who may be, please let us know and we’ll make sure you are added to the loop. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

SNOW DAY NEWS:
“Snow Day, Bloody Snow Day” continues to play at festivals around the country. The next screening is at the Nevermore Film Festival, February 17-19th in North Carolina.

SXSW:
Jessica and Gadzookie Jacob Lehrbaum will be in Austin, TX from March 11th through the 19th for the SXSW film festival. Please get in touch if you will be in the area. We’d love to share a bowl of queso with you! (And no, that’s not a euphemism…unless you want it to be.)

Thanks, as always, for your support and enthusiasm as we've worked on making our dreams come true.

Cheers!
Jessica & Faye

Tangent News: January '06 [Jan. 10th, 2006|11:43 am]
Happy New Year, Guys and Ghouls!

2005 was a busy year for us at Tangent Productions we have a lot of plans for 2006 as well!

HIGHLIGHTS OF 2005
Since its completion last May, “Snow Day, Bloody Snow Day” has played at over 16 festivals and conventions, garnered three awards (including the Best Horror Film at the Seattle True Independence Film Festival), and received many reviews (some of which were quite glowing).

We were able to go on the road a bit and attend some of these festivals including The San Diego Comic Con International Film Festival and Shriekfest in Hollywood.

In July, shortly before our awesome trip to the Comic Con, our producing company, GadZook Films put together a team for the national 48-Hour Film Project. We made up half of the writing staff for this endeavor. After writing, shooting, and editing a 7 minute short in less than 48 hours, Team GadZook! turned in their final project. "Hook Her," went on to win Best Overall Film out of 27 Seattle-based teams as well as Best Music, Best Use of Prop and placed 2nd in the Audience Awards! The short will go on to play at the 2006 Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose in March.

In November we took part in the Atomfilms/Intel Film Contest - with a grand prize of $25,000 at stake. Our short, "Wizards of the Toast" tells a cautionary tale about mixing drugs and magic. The winners will be announced at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival this month.

PLANS FOR 2006
In January, we head to Sundance/Slamdance/Tromadance with the script to our new feature film "Plight of the Living Dead". The story centers around Jack, a vegetarian zombie who is trying to find his place in a prejudiced society. When an evil zombie gang threatens the tenuous balance between humans and the undead, Jack must battle against them to save the city and win back his self-worth. The script has already received an Honorable Mention at the Eerie Horror Screenplay Competition, is a finalist in the First Glance Feature Screenplay Competition and won Best Comedy Script in the Hollywood is Burning Competition. Stay tuned as we move on to the next crucial step - financing!

In March, Tangent and Gadzook (a.k.a TanZook) will be hanging out in Austin at SXSW!

Then in July, we will once again attend the San Diego Comic Con.

If you plan to attend any of these events, please let us know. We would love to hook up with some friendly faces.

As you can see, 2006 promises to be a very eventful and exciting year for us.

As ever, thanks for your support, enthusiasm and general awesomeness.

New Review [Dec. 1st, 2005|11:58 am]
Here's a new review from a Seattle ex-pat living in Australia. This is actually our first review from a Seattle native so somebody was finally able to confirm the authenticity of our "snow panic" scenes!

(Almost) December News! [Nov. 29th, 2005|12:13 pm]
Greetings Guys and Ghouls,

We have some exciting announcements in the world of Tangent Productions and “Snow Day, Bloody Snow Day”.

AWARDS!
Recently, "Snow Day" played at the NW Projections Film Festival in packed theaters AND won the coveted Golden Hamster award for best in category!

We also were among the honored at the Pretty/Scary Film Fest during Gengis Con in Pittsburg. We played alongside such remarkable horror films as “Gory, Gory Hallelujah” and “Teenage Bikini Vampire”. Regrettably, we were unable to attend, but we’re pleased as punch to be included in that distinguished sorority.

RECEPTION!
In Florida, the annual Fear on Fairbanks yielded a very favorable turnout leaving the audience "laughing hysterically." According to Constantin Preda, the film "stole the show" and was a big hit.

***If anyone out there catches "Snow Day" at a screening or festival please let us know how it goes! We love feedback, both good and bad. (But obviously, we prefer the former).***

NEW STUFF!
We recently completed production on a short entitled “Wizards of the Toast”. Tangent Productions once again joined forced with Gadzook Films to enter the Atom Films Intel Indies Film Contest. “WotZ” is a 4-minute comedy about the consequences (or lackthereof) of stoner wizards abusing their powers. It was directed by the luminous Faye Hoerauf, and written by us Tangent girls as well as Gevin Booth, Chris Borgia, Dom Zook, Brian Barnett and Bevin Flynn. Wish us luck!

UPCOMING SCREENING:
Nihilist Film Festival - at the Track 16 Gallery in Santa Monica on Friday, December 16th.

THE NEAR FUTURE
Stay tuned as we prepare to take Park City by storm in January.

Tangent, Bloody Tangent [Jun. 8th, 2005|12:18 pm]
Hello Beasties and Beauties,

Tangent rears it gore covered head once again this month, courtesy of your friends at Cell Division.

June 12, 2005 Brings you Tangent, Bloody Tangent!

In concert with local film makers Tangent Productions (no relation) and Gadzooks Films, this month we bring you a feast of foetid undead excitement.

We will be hosting a screening of the recently completed "Snow Day, Bloody Snow Day" a short film of Zombie fighting mayhem filmed right here in Seattle. The film makers will be on hand to answer all your questions about wether its harder to defeat zombies or to make a film about them, and perhaps they might even share some tantilizing tidbits about their next project "Plight of the Living Dead", or maybe even sign autographs - we should get them primed and ready to deal with fame and flash-bub-slathering-fortune for when it shambles their way.

For those of you who like to get caught up in the action there will be an oportunity to get your putrescence on at a Zombie MakeUp Station, and perhaps even a Zombie themed drink to make your inhibitions as loose as your viscera.

Gracing the 1's and 2's, (and 0's and 1's for the digitally inclined) this month we have:

DJ Fountainhead
DJ DangerGirl
CJP
Thog

VJ LowRez will be plastering the projection screen with her twisted visuals, and I would ot be suprised if you saw some of your favorite necrotic set pieces blended into the mixture before your eyes.

To keep your digits in fine form, there will be game consoles on projection screens, serving up zombie killing action and perhaps a little of everyones favorite Halo2 on the LAN.

If that still isn't enough, you will find a healthy array of tactile diversions, games, and toys strewn about, free pool, and that old standard, Alchohol, available for a moderate fee.

We start at 8, so if it's a school night, come down early and have a last hurrah before the week gets you going. We close up late for those of you who can't put the morrow off long enough, but you'll want to be in the house by 11pm to get the full dose of Snow Day, Bloody Snow Day, and maybe even win a copy of the DVD in a raffle.

As alsways Tangent is an open music format, no dress code, NOT membership only, $5.00, 21+ over night for your exploration.

They're Coming To Get You, Barbara... [Jun. 7th, 2005|10:30 pm]
This is a great review on a really entertaining website. We are really excited that they not only gave our film a positive review, but they did so in the wonderfully tangenial fashion that they write all their other reviews. The Barbaras are the best!
